Frequently Asked Questions

Refresh is a Christian conference designed for foster and adoptive parents, kinship providers, grandparents, and others who care for orphaned and vulnerable children. Refresh is not a recruiting conference. It is all about supporting the post placement journey. We understand firsthand that this journey can be difficult and lonely. The Refresh Conference is a time for you to escape from the distractions and chaos of life and be physically, emotionally, and spiritually refreshed and inspired.

The 2022 Refresh Conference will be hosted at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California.

All are welcome to the Refresh Conference. Everyone will be able to relate to the shared experiences of the presenters and activity leaders if you are caring for a child with challenging behaviors. The conference is hosted by Saddleback Church and designed by Overlake Church, so it can be expected to have some Christian perspectives.

During the conference there will be four main sessions with dozens of breakout sessions to choose from to meet your specific needs. In addition to the best content to equip you, we will have many soul-care experiences to help restore peace to your mind and body.

For you overachievers, you are welcome to attend! However, this conference is not a recruiting event. Rather, the Refresh conference is about supporting those who are already parenting non-biological kids.

You can take advantage of the early bird pricing of $59/person until December 26. The regular price is $79/person from December 26, 2021-February 25, 2022. After February 26, 2020, it will be last minute pricing of $89/person.

Please note there will be a small service fee added on top of the registration fees by the registration site.

We will provide a shuttle back in forth to the conference at at the Courtyard by Marriott or the Ayres Hotel since they are the closest. So all you need is to Uber from Airport if you stay there. There are several other hotels nearby but we found that the ratings were not as good.

Unfortunately, no. Pricing is based per person.

Unfortunately, registration is for the entire conference, but please feel free to come to whichever portions you are able.

We will refund your registration fee minus the service fees and an additional admin fee of $25, up to 30 days prior to the conference. After that we are very sorry, but we are unable to issue refunds.

Childcare will not be available at the Refresh Conference. Due to the nature of topics discussed and to provide participants with the opportunity to relax, though we love kids (and we really love kids), this conference is strictly a “Kid Free” event.

This is a “KID FREE” event. That means as much as we love kids (and we really love kids) we are trying to create an environment where parents and caregivers are able to relax, unwind and of course be Refreshed. So please no children of any age and no exceptions. Our participants thank you!!

The only meals provided are the optional Single Parent Dinner on Thursday night and Mom’s or Dad’s Breakfast on Friday morning. No other meals are included. Meal tickets for lunches will be available for purchase on site, and there are many affordable options in the local community for lunch and dinner. No need to worry about drinks and snacks, we got those covered! We don’t want anyone to get “hangry” or low blood sugar!”

We may not be able to meet every dietary need so please plan ahead and be prepared to provide meals for yourself if you have a strict diet. However, we will always have a vegetarian option along with meat options. There is a Sprouts Market less than a mile from the conference.

No. In order to keep the price of the conference as affordable as possible, we have decided to not include lunch for the pre-conference or the conference days. But there are many affordable options onsite and in the local community to grab lunch.

Yes! We have a limited number of scholarships available. The deadline for applying for a scholarship is February 1, 2022.

Yes! Many of our breakout sessions are approved by foster licensing agencies. You will receive a certificate verifying all of the content that you experienced and learned from. However, the relief in your eyes and smile on your face will be the greatest benefit!

The best airport to fly into will be John Wayne Airport (SNA). The Saddleback Church campus in Lake Forest is where the Conference will be. Saddleback Lake Forest is approximately 15 miles (20 mins) from SNA.

We are more than happy to answer your questions! Simply email Max at: maxm@saddleback.com for more info.

Yes, our conference couldn’t happen unless we have a group of volunteers! The volunteer link will be up on the website by December. Meanwhile, feel free to email refresh@occ.org with questions.

Unfortunately, no discounts or childcare are available for volunteers. But we do have a limited number of scholarships available for attending the conference for folks who need assistance. Feel free to fill out the scholarship application, if needed.

We are confident that there is hardly a challenge that you are experiencing that won’t be addressed during your time at Refresh. Between the dozens of speakers and organizers designing the conference, we are caring for hundreds of vulnerable children. We are not coming from a clinical framework, but from personal experience walking the walk as parents and caregivers. In addition to lived experiences, some presenters possess degrees, diplomas, and certificates but first and foremost they possess lived experience of doing life 24/7 as foster/adoptive/kinship families.

We will also provide a free Family Care Kit for each family in attendance that will offer a wide range of items to help you implement at home what you learned and experienced at Refresh.

We are not hosting an exhibit area at this conference. Those who are hosting breakout sessions will be responsible for offering their own resources.
